Brazil Tours and TravelVisas are required for North Americans traveling to Brazil, and are "free". However, as the American and Canadian embassies charge a fee of $140 for Brazilians applying for a U.S. or Canadian visa, the Brazilian government collects $140 ($150 if applying by mail, where allowed-see notes below) for processing visas for North Americans to Brazil.

Notes:

The visa application may be copied, but it must be back-to-back, correct side up, on a single sheet of lateral size paper. Children under age 18 not traveling with both parents must provide a notarized consent form, signed by the absent parent(s). This letter must be authenticated by the Brazilian Consulate, fee $45 per page.

Int'l Certificate of Vaccination showing valid polio vaccination s required for all children age 7 and under.

The Brazil tourist or business visa is usually valid for entry into Brazil within 90 days of issue date.

The tourist visa is then valid for multiple entry for five years, for a stay of up to 90 days each time and costs US$130 ($140 if applying by mail, if allowed - see notes below).

Please note that the Consulate DOES NOT ISSUE SAME DAY VISAS, unless in case of a documented medical emergency.

Payments for visas, handling fees and other charges are accepted by US POSTAL MONEY ORDER ONLY

When applying by mail, applicant must reside within the consulate's jurisdiction. (not available in all areas; see information below for participating consulates)

Please allow 7 (seven) business days for processing of visa application and return of passport, not including transit time. This processing time applies from the moment application is received at the consulate.

The Consulate General of Brazil will receive correspondence sent by the U.S. Postal Service as well as all courier services (address the envelope to the attention of the VISA SECTION). However, the Consulate will only return documents via the U.S. Postal Service, such as First Class, Certified, Priority or Express Mail. Applicants must therefore enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of their documents. The consulate will not return any documents via courier services such as DHL, FEDEX, UPS, AIRBORNE or others.

The Consulate recommends that applicants use mail/courier services that provide a tracking number.

Incomplete or incorrect applications will be returned to sender within 5 business days.

The Consulate is not responsible for delayed, lost or stolen mail.
